Joseph Percy Wilson (SN 4245) born at Buninyong, was a 20 year old draper when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 24th 1915. On March 7th 1916 he embarked aboard the Wiltshire and sailed to England. In October he reached the battlefields of the Western Front to serve with the 21st Infantry Battalion. He was constantly troubled by mumps and was also hospitalised with trench foot. In September 1918 he was hospitalised suffering from the effects of gas. After the war he returned to Australia aboard the Kanowna, disembarked at Melbourne on October 23rd 1919 and was discharged on January 16th 1920.
