John Sickler Dunstan (SN 2162) born in Ballarat, was a 24 year old lithographer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 23rd 1915. On September 27th he embarked aboard the Hororata and in March 1916 he joined Anzac Headquarters in France. Among his early duties was acting as an escort for General Birdwood. He was moved to the Anzac Topographical Section where his conspicuous service earned for him the French Crois de Guerre. He returned to Australia aboard the Orsova, disembarked on May 12th 1920 and was discharged on August 11th.
