Benjamin Harold Day (SN 14033) born in Ballarat was a 31 year old blacksmith when he enlisted on July 23rd 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps in Ballarat then transferred to the 10th Field Ambulance at Ascot Vale. On May 20th 1916 he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Medic. Two months later, in September, he joined the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station in France. Little is recorded of his time in France. After the war he returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff on the Borda, disembarking on June 27th 1919 and discharged on August 11th.

His brothers Spencer and William served in the AIF and were both killed in action in 1917 are also honoured with trees in the Avenue.
