Biography

Benjamin Harold Day was born in Ballarat and was a Blacksmith by trade when he enlisted in the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station on 23 July 1915 at the age of 31. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A7 Medic on 20 May 1916 and came ashore at Plymouth on July 18th. Two months later, in September, he joined the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station in France. Little is recorded of his time in France. After the war he returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff on the Borda, disembarking on June 27th 1919.
