Biography

Walter Transton Owen (SN 11753) born at Ballarat, was a 23 year old salesman when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 23rd 1915. On January 27th 1916 he embarked aboard the Themistocles to serve on the Western Front as a gunner with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade. He reached France in June but aside from some minor illness and an accidental knee injury he came through the war without major incident. He returned to Australia aboard the Mahia, disembarked at Melbourne on July 17th 1919 and was discharged on September 8th.
