Biography

John Tregenza Dixon (SN 3724), from Bradshaw Street in Ballarat East, was a 21 year old clerk when he enlisted on July 24th 1915. He left Melbourne in November on board the Ceramic with the 14th Battalion, but transferred to the 46th Infantry Battalion in Egypt before being posted to France in June 1916. Promoted to Corporal, he suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder in August and was evacuated to England. He rejoined his unit in February 1917 and was wounded again two months later, suffering another gunshot wound which resulted in a compound fracture of his leg. He again rejoined his unit in June but, on July 17th 1917, he was killed in action on Hill 63 near Messines, Belgium. 23 years of age, he is buried in Underhill Farm Cemetery, Ploegsteert,
