Born in Stawell, Victoria, John William McDougall was a single 37 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment in Colac, Victoria on the 14th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A73 Commonwealth on the 26th of November 1915.
John returned to Australia on the 29th of September 1916, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 13th of December 1916.
