Born in Sebastopol, Walter Granland was a single 18 year old gardener at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 2nd of August 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on the 23rd of November 1915.
He returned to Australia on the 14th of May 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 6th of July 1919.
