Biography

James Vine Pearce was born in Ballarat and was a Medical practitioner when he enlisted in the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station as a Captain on 25 July 1915 at the age of 25. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A45 Bulla on 25 November 1915. On 10 June 1916 he was temporarily attached to the No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station before transferring back to the 15th Field Ambulance. His record shows he escaped any serious illness or injury during his tour, returning to Australia 18 January 1919 and receiving a promotion to Major on 28 January 1918.
