Sydney Alexander Mervyn Hubbard was a 22 year old, unmarried labourer in Ballarat who had been born in Melbourne. He enlisted on 23rd July 1915, and was drafted in the 5th Infantry Battalion with Regimental No. 3555. He was later transferred to 46th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action in the Messines area on 12th June 1917. His name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
