Biography

William Goble (SN 4200) born at Ballarat, was a 31 year old factory manager when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 28th1915. Assigned to the 5th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Demosthenes on December 29th. Upon arrival in Egypt he was transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion and was moved to France in April 1916. He served there until August 1917 when he was withdrawn to England for further training and he did not return to France. He returned to Australia aboard the Saxon, disembarked at Melbourne on January 30th 1919 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on March 16th .
