Biography

Clarence Gerald Parkinson (SN 2738) was born in Nhill where he attended the local state school. The 18 year old, unmarried labourer enlisted in Ballarat on July 27th 1915. Posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion, he embarked from Melbourne in October on board the Ulysses. After training in Egypt, he arrived in France in March 1916. On July 27th 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres. He is buried in the Serre Road Cemetery No. 2, France.

His brother Henry was killed in France in 1918 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
