David Oliver (SN 2730) born at Ballarat, was a 21 year old drover when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 26th 1915. As a reinforcement for the 24th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Ulysses on October 27th and sailed to Egypt. Transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion, he was moved to France in April 1917. In September he suffered multiple shrapnel wounds and was evacuated to England where it was decided his war was over. He was returned to Australia aboard the Suevic, disembarked on June 7th 1918 and was discharged medically unfit on August 9th.
