Biography

Joseph John Fox was born in Charlton, Victoria and was a Fitter and Machinist when he enlisted in the 5th Field Company Engineers on 28 July 1915 at the age of 24. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 24 November 1915. In March 1916 he joined the 5th Field Company Engineers in France and served there until he returned to England in April 1917, transferred to the Australian Flying Corps as an Air Mechanic. He was later attached to the 29th Training Squadron AFC with whom he served out the war. He returned home on the HS Kaiser-i-Hind, disembarking at Melbourne on June 16th 1919.
