William John Dennis (SN 3087) born at Creswick, was a 22 year old blacksmith when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 28th 1915. Assigned to the 21st Infantry Battalion he embarked on October 15th 1915 aboard the Ascanius. On arrival in Egypt he had several short-term unit transfers before settling in the 13th Field Artillery Brigade. He had a lengthy hospital stay in early 1918 but otherwise avoided battle wounds. He returned to Australia on the Orontes and was discharged on August 22nd 1919.
