Biography

Born in Ballarat, Victoria and a bank Clerk by occupation, Gordon Charles Frederick Bennett was 23 years and married when enlisted on the 21st of July 1915 in the 57th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Private, Number 1660. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A14 'Euripides' on the 4th of April 1916. Promoted EDP Sergeant on the 4th of April 1916. Reverts to Private on the 22nd of May 1916. Promoted temporary Sargent on the 22nd of May 1916. Reverts to Private on the 11th of May 1917. Promoted Lance Corporal on the 11th of May 1917. Reverts to Private on the 20th of August 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal on the 20th of September 1917. (Entries referring to soldiers movements and rank from embarkation to the 1st of January 1918 are amended to read in accordance with above ruling. Promotions reconciliation prior to 1st of January 1918.) Embarked return per 'Darwin' on the 27th of July 1919. Disembarked on the 27th of July 1919 and discharged on the 10th of September 1919 from 3rd Military District list No. 294 with the termination of period of employment. Tree No. 1841
