Born in Ballarat, Edward William McDuff was a single 20 year old driver at the time of his enlistment in Melbourne, Victoria on the 2nd of August 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on the 23rd of November 1915.
On the 3rd of July 1916, Edward was appointed Lance Corporal. He was then promoted Corporal on the 23rd of December 1916. On the 7th of May 1917, Edward was promoted again, to Sergeant.
He was awarded the Military Medal on the 27th of October 1918.
Edward returned to Australia on the 5th of February 1919, and was discharged on the 22nd of March 1919.
