Biography

Walter Harold Fitridge (SN 2024) born at Creswick, was a 29 year old labourer when he enlisted in Geelong on August 2nd 1915 and was assigned to the 29th Infantry Battalion. He embarked on February 18th 1916 aboard the Ballarat and sailed to England. In June 1917 he was transferred to the 12th Field Artillery Brigade and moved to France. He avoided major illness or injury until the months after the war when he spent an extended period in Bulford Hospital. He returned to Australia aboard the Barambah, disembarked at Melbourne on October 23rd 1919 and was discharged on December 17th. He also enlisted to serve during World War 2. His son Harold and daughter Evelyn enlisted to serve in the RAAF during World War 2 also.
