Biography

Harold Batman Slocombe was born in Buchan, Victoria, was single and a Labourer living in Ballarat East when he enlisted with the 4th Light Horse Regiment, 12th Reinforcement on 10 August 1915 at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23 November 1915. He was transferred to the 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column in May 1916 and was later admitted to the Bath War Hospital for Trench Feet in January 1917. He was discharged to Weymouth from 1st Auxiliary Hospital in October 1917 for tuberculosis and chronic bronchitis. He returned to England aboard the Newhaven for discharge, returning to Australia on 5 November 1917.
