William Watkin Winn Chaplin (Maj.) born at Bourke NSW, was a married 42 year old medical practitioner when he was commissioned as a captain in August 1915. He embarked aboard the Runic on June 20th 1916 and in November he joined the 10th Field Ambulance in France. In 1917 he was promoted to major and moved to the 11th Field Ambulance before joining the 3rd Australian General Hospital. He returned to Australia aboard the Margha, disembarked at Melbourne on March 4th 1919 and his appointment was terminated on May 4th.
