Biography

Albert Alexander Howard (SN 3773) was born in Walhalla and attended the local state school. He was a 27 year old carpenter when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 22nd 1915. He was assigned to the 46th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in November on board the Ceramic. He landed in France in June 1916 and was wounded in February 1917 but was only out of the line for a few days. On April 5th 1918 he was killed in action at Dernancourt. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France. He was 30 years of age.
