Biography

Harry Stephen Seward (also spelled 'Harrie') was born in Rochester, Victoria, was single and a Dairy farmer when he enlisted with the 3rd Pioneer Battalion, A Company on 26 January 1916 at the age of 36. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on 6 June 1916. He attended Cadet Officers training in February 1917 and was promoted to Lieutenant before being admitted to the 3rd London General Hospital for a mild sprained ankle in April of that year. On 7 September 1917 he was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to the head and right leg. He was invalided to Australia aboard the Euripides in May 1918.
