Biography

John Leslie Harrison (SN 4522) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Dana Street State School. He was an 18 year old pattern maker when he enlisted on August 3rd 1915. Posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion he trained at Castlemaine and Ballarat before embarking aboard the Themistocles on January 28th 1916. On arrival in Egypt he was transferred to the 58th Battalion and reached France on April 1st. In July 1916 he was transferred to the 5th Division Headquarters for the remainder of his service. After the war he returned to Australia aboard the Devanha, disembarked at Melbourne on June 23rd 1919 and was discharged on August 15th.
