Biography

Clarence Vivian Bunting (SN 4219) was a 19 year old coach builder from Humffray Street in Ballarat East when he enlisted on August 12th 1915. He trained first at Castlemaine then transferred to the Australian Medical Corps at Broadmeadows. He sailed from Melbourne on March 7th 1916 aboard the Wiltshire and in early August he joined the 23rd Battalion in France. Unfortunately his period of service was marred by serious disciplinary charges that meant much of his time was spent in detention. After the war he returned to Australia on the Port Melbourne, disembarking at Melbourne on August 20th 1919. He died in July 1974 at the age of 78
