Biography

Robin Gordon Telfer (SN 85) was born in Ballarat and attended the Redan State School. He was a 19 year old blacksmith when he enlisted in the 8th Infantry Battalion on August 24th 1914. His unit embarked from Melbourne aboard the Benalla on October 19th 1914. His service at Gallipoli was interrupted by a period in hospital suffering from jaundice. In March 1916 he moved to France where in April he received a promotion to Corporal and was transferred to the 2nd Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery. On August 18th 1916 he was killed in action, has no known grave, and his name is listed on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
