Biography

Robin Gordon Telfer was born in Ballarat and a blacksmith by trade when he enlisted in the 8th Infantry Battalion on 24 May 1914 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A24 Benalla on 19 October 1914. On 20 April 1916 he received a promotion to Corporal and was transferred to the 2nd Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery.

On 18 August 1916, while serving with the 2nd Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery, Cpl. Telfer was killed in action in the field.
