Biography

Born in Ballarat, Leslie McCartney was a single 23 year old civil servant at the time of his enlistment in Melbourne, Victoria on the 27th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on the 23rd of November 1915.
Leslie was appointed Lance Corporal on the 23rd of September 1916, Second Corporal on the 11th of March 1918, and was promoted to Corporal on the 31st of October 1918.
Leslie returned to Australia on the 2nd of July 1919, and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 25th of August 1919.
