Born in Stawell, Victoria, John Haley was a single 24 year old clerk at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat, Victoria on the 31st of August 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A23 Suffolk on the 1st of April 1916.
John returned to Australia on the 24th of October 1917, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 10th of December 1917.
