James Joseph Flanagan was born in Hawthorn, Victoria was single and was employed as a Teacher. He enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 29. He volunteered and was stationed with the 1st Australian Remount Unit, 2nd Squadron later transferring to the Australian Army Postal Corps with the Regimental number 361. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 5th of July 1916. Tree number 1917.
