Joseph Power was born in Sebastapol, VIC and was a Labourer living on Anderson Street, Ballarat East with his wife, Mrs Ellen Power when he enlisted in the Australian Remount Unit 1, Squadron 2 on 15 September 1915 at the age of 43. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board TRANSPORT A67 Orsova on 12 November 1915. His tour was brief as he was sent to the 3rd Australian General Hospital in Abbassia for rheumatism on 26 May 1916 which led to a discharge from service on 17 July of that year.
