Albert Ernest Willmott (SN 3511) was born in England but was a 30 year old motor driver, married to Irene, when he enlisted in Melbourne in August 1915. He sailed from Australia on HMAT Nestor in October of that year and spent three months in Egypt during which time he suffered a knee injury which required his admission to the No. 1 Auxilliary Hospital in Cairo for several weeks. He moved to France in May 1916 to serve with the 5th Battalion, remaining there until December 1917 when he was transferred to England due to a heart irregularity. He subsequently returned to Australia where he was discharged as medically unfit in June 1918. He died in October 1939.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as A.E. Wilmot.
