Biography

Allan John Taylor was born in Broken Hill, NSW, was single and a Labourer living in Ballarat, Victoria when he enlisted with the 4th Light Horse Regiment, 13th Reinforcement on 19 October 1915 at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A54 Runic on 20 January 1916 and was appointed as a Driver with the 2nd D.A.C. on 15 March. Four days later he was penalized for æabsenting himself from parade without permission. On 7 November 1917, whilst serving in France, he was wounded in action, re-joining his brigade a month later. He then reported to hospital as sick, where he remained for a period of 210 days, re-joining his unit on 28 July 1918. He returned to Australia 12 July 1919.
