Born in Ballarat, Roy Martin Kydd was a single 19 year old telegraphist when he enlisted on the 27th of October 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A12 Saldanha on the 5th of February 1916.
He returned to Australia on the 19th of April 1919 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 19th of July 1919.
