Roy Martin Kydd (SN 7709) born in Ballarat, was a 19 year old telegraphist when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 27th 1915. On February 5th 1916 he embarked aboard the Saldanha and sailed via India to Basrah for service with the 1st Anzac Signals Squadron. While he avoided battle wounds he was troubled by bronchitis and sand fly fever. After the war ended, he returned home aboard the Janus, disembarked at Melbourne on April 19th 1919 and was discharged on July 19th. He also served during World War 2.
