George Dalgleish was born in Ballarat but enlisted from Linda Valley, TAS. He was 22 years old, unmarried, and a police constable. He joined the 26th Infantry Battalion, Regimental No. 950. During service on Gallipoli he was promoted Lance Sergeant. He contracted paratyphoid and was evacuated to Australia for 3 months rest. While awaiting re-embarkation he was on picquet detail in Claremont, and accidentally shot himself in the leg. He died in hospital on 12th August 1916, and is buried in the Carnelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart, Tasmania.
