Biography

George Edward Dalgleish (SN 1640) was born at Haddon but was a 39 year old sawyer, a widower, living at Mt. Pleasant when he enlisted on November 9th 1915. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Aeneas in April 1916 and joined the 51st Battalion in Egypt in May. In August he reached France, but in November 1916 he was evacuated to hospital in England suffering from an accidentally sustained broken rib. An ankle injury in May 1917 led to him being assessed as unfit for further active service and he was returned to Australia for home service.
