Lawrence Braybrook (SN 5049) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old fishmonger when he enlisted at Ballarat on December 20th 1915. He embarked aboard the Suffolk on April 1st 1916 to serve with the 8th Infantry Battalion. He reached France in June and in October he was wounded in action suffering wounds to his back and right arm. In April 1917 he suffered accidental burns to his foot then in April 1918 he was wounded again, a scalp wound. At war’s end he returned to Australia aboard the Soudan, disembarked at Melbourne on June 29th 1919 and was discharged on August 13th.
His brothers Clarence and William also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
