David Charles Walker (SN 15873) born in Ballarat, was a 22 year old art teacher when he enlisted in Ballarat on December 21st 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps before embarking from Sydney aboard the Port Napier on November 17th 1916. His service in England was hampered by cerebro-spinal meningitis but he joined the 2nd Australian General Hospital in France in September 1917 later transferring to the 3rd AGH. At war’s end he returned to Australia as nursing staff aboard the Ormonde, disembarked at Melbourne on August 1st 1919 and was discharged on November 8th.
