Biography

Thomas Hughes (SN 1847) was born at Sebastopol and was a 38 year old miner, married to Ethel, when he enlisted on December 22nd 1915. He was posted to the 39th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in August on board the Orontes. He arrived in England at the beginning of October and was posted to France seven weeks later. He was killed in action on April 10th 1917 near Armentieres, and is buried in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, France.
