Biography

Andrew Hayes (SN 4128) was born in Ballarat, but enlisted at Melbourne on the January 4th 1916. He was married, 34 years old and a labourer. He was posted to 21st Battalion and left Australia in March on board the Wiltshire. Later he was transferred to 5th Pioneer Battalion. While serving in the Western Front trenches he became ill and was evacuated to UK, where he died of pneumonia on April 7th 1917. He is buried in Melcombe Regis Communal Cemetery, Westham, UK.
