Biography

Andrew Hayes was born in Ballarat, but enlisted from Abbotsford on the 4th January 1916. He was married, 34 years old and a labourer. He was posted to 21st Battalion, with Regimental No. 4128. Later he was transferred to 5th Pioneer Battalion.- his rank changed from Private to Sapper, but his Regimental No. remained the same. He took ill and was evacuated to UK, where he died of pneumonia on 7th April1917. He is buried in Melcombe Regis Communal Cemetery, Westham, UK
