Biography


William Ernest Griffiths was a married 24 year old bookkeeper at the time of his enlistment on January 8th 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916.
Over his period of service, William was promoted to Corporal on the 1st of May 1916, after being an Acting Corporal, Sergeant on the 10th of January 1917, an Extra Regimental Sergeant with the Pay Corps on the 8th of April 1918, Extra Regimental Staff Sergeant on the 18th of August 1918, and his last rank, an Extra Regimental Warrant Officer First Class on the 11th of November 1918.
William returned to Australia on the 21st of June 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 13th of January 1920.
