Biography

James Alfred Trezise (SN 4239) was born in Ballarat, attended Redan State School, but enlisted in Geelong on January 6th 1916 as a 26 year old, single slaughterman. He was posted to the 21st Infantry Battalion and sailed from Melbourne on March 7th aboard the Wiltshire and reached France in late May 1916. An accidental cut to his thumb forced his evacuation to hospital in England in July. He returned to France in late September. On October 4th 1917 he was killed in action at Broodseinde, has no known grave, and his name is on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
