Born in Ballarat, Frederick Henry Heard was a single 22 year old dentist at the time of his enlistment on the 17th of January 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A23 Suffolk on the 1st of April 1916.
On August 9th 1918, Frederick was wounded in action. He was invalided to the U.K on the 18th of August 1918 with a severe gunshot wound to his left thigh.
He returned to Australia on the 1st of February 1919 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 11th of March 1919.
