Biography

William James Tregoning (SN 5305) was born in Clunes, but enlisted as a bootmaker in Ballarat on January 17th 1916. He was a 40 year old bachelor. He was posted to the 22nd Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne abord the Themistocles in late July. On May 3rd 1917 he was killed in action near Bullecourt, has no known grave, and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as William J. Tregonning.
