Biography

Albert John White (SN 6136) born at Buangor, was a 20 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on January 20th 1916. On July 28th he embarked aboard the Themistocles and in November he arrived in France assigned to the 38th Infantry Battalion. During his service he was wounded twice, a shrapnel wound to the shoulder soon after reaching France, and then severe bruising in October 1917. At war’s end he returned aboard the Nestor disembarked at Melbourne on July 2nd 1919 and was discharged on August 9th.

His brother Edward also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
