Biography

Albert Grantford Parkinson was born in Ballarat and was a Labourer living in Ballarat East when he enlisted in the 39th Battalion, D Company on 24 March 1916 at the age of 31. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 27 May 1916. According to his records he escaped any serious illness or injury until 22 August 1918, upon which he was invalided to the UK as sick. He rejoined his battalion four months later and marched into England. On 9 June 1919 he received a medical discharge and returned to Australia aboard the Nevasa.
