Alfred John Rowsell was born in Ballarat, and enlisted there on 25th January 1916. He was a bricklayer, 20 years old, and single. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 5213. He was killed in action at Broodseinde on 4th October 1917. His name is on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
