Biography

John Thomas Welsh was born in Ballarat and was a Baker when he enlisted in the 39th Battalion, B Company on 26 January 1916 at the age of 34. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 27 May 1916. He disembarked in England on July 18th and in November he moved to France where he was transferred to the 22nd Company 3rd Division Train as a driver. Shortly after the war ended he was admitted to hospital for a month for treatment for pyorrhoea. He returned to Australia on the Devon and disembarked at Melbourne on November 27th 1919.
