Biography

Louis Patrick Prunty was born in Ballarat and was a Boilermaker when he enlisted in the 21st Battalion, 11th Reinforcement on 26 January 1916 at the age of 37. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Orontes on 29 March 1916. During his tour in France, on 4 October 1917, he was wounded in action with a severe gunshot wound to the right shoulder. He was evacuated to England for recovery and was able to re-join his unit from Wounded on 9 March 1918. A month later, on the 16th of April, he was reported as wounded in Germany and held as a prisoner of war. He eventually was returned to England in December and returned to Australia on 17 March 1919.
