Biography

Thomas Edward Hauser (SN 2025A) born at Allendale was a 21 year old teacher when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 26th 1916 . He embarked aboard the Ajana on July 8th and sailed to England. In December 1916 he reached France to serve with the 60th Infantry Battalion. In April 1917 he came under notice due to some hearing issues and in June he was withdrawn to England for further assessment and treatment. He was returned to Australia aboard the Ulysses, disembarked at Melbourne on March 10th 1919 and was discharged on May 22nd ‘medically unfit, deafness’.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Edward T. Hauser.
