Biography

Edward Eason (SN 5092) born in Ballarat, was a 33 year old farmer when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 14th 1916. On April 1st he embarked aboard the Suffolk and sailed to Egypt. Once there he was transferred from the 5th Infantry Battalion to the 59th Battalion for service in France from June 1916. He was wounded in action on two occasions. In August 1916 he suffered wounds to his hand and chest, then in August 1918 he suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm. When the war ended, he returned home on the Port Lyttleton, disembarked at Melbourne on August 5th 1919 and was discharged on September 27th.
