Biography

Archibald Sneddon was born in Ballarat East and attended the Golden Point State School. He enlisted in Ballarat on January 29th 1916. The single, 38 year old blacksmith was assigned to the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on the Suffolk in April. By the middle of September, he was serving with the 8th Battalion in Belgium. Twelve months later, on September 20th 1917, he was killed in action at Polygon Wood, and is buried in Tyne Co Cemetery, Passchendaele, Belgium.

His younger brother George also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
