Biography

Born in Horsham, Victoria and a photographer by occupation, David Albert Baird was 27 years and single enlisted on the 1st of February 1916 in the 37th Battalion, A Company, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Private, Number 214. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A34 'Persic' on the 3rd of June 1916. Promoted Lance Corporal on the 14th of August 1916 and Corporal on the 4th of September; Lance Corporal to be Corporal Clerk on the 3rd of September 1916 in the 37th Battalion in England; Corporal promoted Sergeant on the 1st of September 1918 in France. Sergeant transferred to 38th Battalion on the 31st of October 1918. Embarked return to Australia per 'Themistocles' on the 12th of June 1919. Disembarked on the 8th of August 1919. Discharged from the 3rd Military District on the 22nd of September 1919 with the termination of period of enlistment. Tree No. 2069
