Biography

George Race Wilkinson was born in Ballarat and was a Mechanical Dentist by trade when he enlisted in the Dental Details Unit on 21 July 1915 as a Staff Sergeant at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on March 1st 1916, attached to the Australian Medical Corps No. 45 Dental Section. He served in Egypt for several months before moving on to England in August 1916. On November 8th 1917 he married 22 year old May Grace at St. Mary's Church at Southampton. After the war he returned home on the Konig Frederick August and disembarked at Melbourne on August 6th 1919.
